cryptical

The Universe. Some scratches of Beryllium. Diving. The Navel of the Galaxies. Maybe god. Maybe the void. Maybe you. Maybe it's just cryptical

Constellation: Crater (The Cup)
Mood: Trippy
Song: Super Massive Black Hole * Muse

I've completed my first year at work. When I first came in, I never thought I'd managed to work in the promotion of Arab Independent Cinema. That title alone frightened me. And here I am now, working on this project, organizing Arab Film Weeks, watching Arab films that I didn't even know would exist.

Needless to say, an interesting experience for a journalism graduate. So many new people, places and events. And on top of that, films.
I chose the Crater constellation for the celebration. Some white wine or aromatic champagne woulen't hurt. According to wikipedia,

"In Greek mythology, a crow/raven serves Apollo, and is sent to fetch water, but it rests lazily on the journey, and after finally obtaining the water in a cup,
takes back a water snake as well, as an excuse. According to the myth, Apollo saw through the fraud, and angrily cast the crow, cup, and snake, into the sky.

The origin of this story is likely to be the juxtaposition of this constellation with those of Corvus (constellation), and Hydra (Constellation), in the area of the sky known as the Sea."

I was supposed to make a 'Loneliness' setlist to go with my previous post, but since it's celebration time, and I don't do that much often, here are the songs that make me bounce when I listen to them back to back.
If you don't know them, I encourage you to track them and have a listen.

01. Not David Bowie (Tori Amos) – from A Piano – the collection [2006]

"Now you want to steal the thoughts
that I haven’t even thought
and it is what it is
how bout your soul made a pact with the Devil
but needs a date with the surgeon
and it is what it is"

02. John the Revelator (Depeche Mode) – from the album Playing the Angel [2005]

"By claiming God as his only rock
He's stealing a god from the Israelite
Stealing a god from a Muslim, too
There is only one god through and through"

03. Supermassive Black Hole (Muse) – from the album Black Holes and Revelations [2006]

"(You set my soul alight)
Glaciers melting in the dead of night
And the superstars sucked
into the supermassive"

04. Limp (Fiona Apple) - from the album When the Pawn... [1999]

"So call me crazy, hold me down
Make me cry; get off now, baby-
It won't be long till you'll be
Lying limp in your own hand"

05. Lullaby (The Cure) – from the album Disintegration [1989]
"And I feel like I'm being eaten
By a thousand million shivering furry holes
And I know that in the morning I will wake up
In the shivering cold"

To Proxima: Between the Lonely and the Loneliness

Star: Proxima Centauri (Centaure Constellation)
Mood: Sad
Song: Hurt * Nine Inch Nails

Sometimes I'm lonely. Sometimes it's just plain loneliness.
Sometimes I wish I had someone.
Sometimes I wish I was just alone.

And when I'm alone, I'd like to dive in.
Have a trip. A ride. An expedition.
But since that is not always feasible, I'd have to search for the closest destination to quench, and muse upon refreshing thoughts.

I am on a crossroad. I could move forward, or I could use some arbitrary alienating road.
And I chose this torturous path towards an avalanched contentment. I could tell you what that supposedly is. But I do not know it yet. Yet the sad thing is that I am sure it exists.

When I reached half of this path, I found myself lonely.
I thought it was just plain loneliness, but yet I am lonely. I wished I had someone to accompany me, yet I feel fulfilled to be alone.

It's the closest place I could reach. Yet it still is a long way. What is there in the end? I don't know. What state of mind will I endure? I don't know.

Proxima Centauri is the closest star to the Sun, barely 4.3 light years away. It's a tiny red-dwarf, hence invisible to the naked eye. Yet even if it sounds in close proximity to us, it still remains way too far. If one seeks to reach it through the fastest manmade space shuttle, one would engage himself in an 18,000 year-ride.

That is exactly the time I need to reach an inner bliss. I am sure by that time, I would have traveled enough, and met many hypotheses for a plausible contentment.

Until that time, until I'd reach Proxima,
I'd still be lonely. Feel plain loneliness
Wish I'd be with someone.
Wish I'd remain alone.

As Trent Reznor said in the illustrious song 'Hurt'
If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

American Doll Posse

Planet: the Tori Planet
Mood: Excited
Song: Bliss * Tori Amos

*** Interrupting our intergalactic ride with this newsflash ***Presenting the first bit of news on Tori's 9th solo album:
American Doll Posse

Blood stains, Desolated scenery, a Bible and the word SHaME

Me thinks it's a wonderful departure from the honeycombs of the Beekeeper, and hopefully a return to a raw and more piano meets electronica sound.

If it is the case, it would be, as Tori herself said it in this magnificent song:
"A Bliss of another Kind"

Berlin, Here I Come!

Satellite: Europa
Mood: Random
Song: Mais * Murcof

Europa is one Jupiter's main moons to have been discovered by Galileo. It has been named after princess Europa, the daughter of King Agenor, who was ruling over the city of Tyre (Now Sour in Southern Lebanon), and the sister of Cadmos. When she was kidnapped by Zeus, Cadmos went searching for her and founded the city of Thebes in Greece. Now why Europa? Believed to be the smoothest object in the Solar System, Europa is formed of frozen layers of ice. Which means that it is an icy creature.

And since I am going to Berlin tomorrow, I will meet the ice directly. I fear getting 'Europa' over there!

As part of our Med-Screen project, supported by the European Union, we are taking 7 Arab films [features and documentaries] from the MEDA region (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, the Palestinian Territories, Syria and Tunisia) to promote them at the European Film Market (Berlin Film Festival).

So we will have a stand for Med-Screen, holding DVDs of the films to be viewed in the stand, as well as flyers, postcards and other goodies.

If you happen to be in Berlin, enjoy the festival!
And if you feel like visiting us, we'll be at the EFM business offices.

As for me, I'll just run from Europa to the indoor scenery. I can't stand the freezing temperatures. And I'll turn on the volume of this brilliant Murcof song because it's already making me warm up for chilly Berlin.
